Carsharing System Explained: Car-Plus-Driver Rental vs Self-Drive

“Carsharing” is a crowded word. Buyers get burned when they expect Zipcar-style unlock and receive a chauffeur workflow — or the reverse. Ptaxi documents two related products: store car rental for self-drive, and a carsharing system for car-plus-driver hire. This article is about the second.

The trip in three acts

After qualification and deposit, the customer searches nearby cars, filters, and pays base, service, insurance and driver fees. Unpaid orders cancel after a short hold.

A driver takes the job from an order hall, reaches the pickup address, contacts the owner, confirms the car is collected, then drives to the customer. The customer starts and ends the hire in the app. The driver returns the car; the owner inspects and closes the order.

Abnormal paths include contacting owner, customer or support, emergency calling and complaints. Treat those as first-class screens in a demo, not afterthoughts.

Apps and admin

Customer app: qualification, violation deposit, search and filter, pay the fee stack, rate car and driver, look up violations afterward.

Driver app: license verification, order hall, collect → meet customer → serve → return, wallet and withdrawals.

Admin: orders and exceptions, vehicle import and live map, pricing plans, commission, invoices, driver approval, coupons and campaigns, alarm records.

Pricing is by car type with day-type rates plus service, insurance and driver fees — different from taxi meter logic, and different again from store rental deposits.

Honest boundaries

The feature list does not define a specific in-car hardware vendor list for P2P sharing (electronic fences and unlock in the *store rental* product are a separate story). If you need a particular device protocol, get it written into the statement of work.

Hosted versus source-code packaging for this module should be confirmed in the quote; do not assume every line is in every license.

When to pick which product

Choose store car rental when customers drive themselves and you run branches or unstaffed pods with unlock.

Choose carsharing (car-plus-driver) when the product is “car and driver for a block of hours,” with owner or depot handoff.

Choose designated driving when the customer’s own car is driven home — that is a different module entirely.

Demo checklist

  • Complete qualification and deposit; place an order; accept it from the driver hall.
  • Walk collect → customer start → customer end → owner confirm.
  • Show live vehicle location and a withdrawal pending admin review.
  • Open an emergency or complaint record in the admin.

For positioning against self-drive, keep both product pages open: carsharing system and car rental software. To see the apps on a call, contact us with your fleet model (owned cars, partner owners, or mixed).

Owner handoff is the quality gate

Most disputes in this model are "the car came back wrong," not "the map was wrong." The flow that requires owner confirmation at return is intentional. Train owners to refuse close-out until photos and mileage match; the software only records the decision.

Drivers who collect late create customer no-shows. Order broadcast and hall filters help, but supply planning is still human: how many drivers you roster near depots at peak hours.

Unit economics without invented numbers

You have four fee lines (base, service, insurance, driver) plus commission. Before launch, pick a sample car type and day type in the admin pricing plan and compute one hire end-to-end on paper. Then ask whether violation deposits and overtime rules match how your owners actually bill. Do not import another city's tariff PDF without checking insurance pass-through.

Frequently asked questions

What is Ptaxi’s carsharing system?

It is software for fleets that rent a vehicle together with a driver. The customer books and pays; a driver collects the car, serves the hire period, then returns it for owner confirmation. It is not a hardware P2P unlock protocol list.

How is it different from store car rental software?

Store car rental is self-drive: smart unlock at a branch, deposits and store confirmation. Carsharing here is car-plus-driver: qualification and violation deposit, an order hall for drivers, and an owner handoff at collect and return.

What does the customer complete before booking?

A driving-qualification check (personal details and license) and a violation deposit used for fines or overtime issues after the trip.

What can operators configure?

Vehicle import, live location, pricing by car type (including weekday/weekend/holiday, service fee, insurance and driver fee), platform commission, coupons, withdrawal review and emergency alarm records.
